Origins of the New Mobius

The catalyst of the Tides AU is the Knuckles Clan. 3,000 years ago, the Knuckles Clan originally lived on Angel Mountain, a sacred place in harmony with nature.

However, when discovering the Master Emerald shrine hidden in the heart of the mountain and the Chaos Emeralds that resided there, progress for the Knuckles Clan really skyrocketed. Using the power of the chaos emeralds, the echidnas rapidly expanded their technology to new heights. They began to trickle out of Angel Mountain, exploring the seas surrounding them. Few echidnae remained on the mountain, and they were outcasts due to their beliefs that the emeralds should not be taken for granted. Eventually, the Knuckles Clan even used the power of the chaos emeralds to completely move into underwater cities, which had breathable atmospheres. This in itself had a tactical and resourceful advantage, as there were plenty of minerals at the bottom of the ocean, on top of being difficult to reach by enemies. Soon, a war was waged between them and another clan. The Chaos emeralds were already giving them higher ground in the war. However, Pachacamac, the chieftain of the Knuckles Clan, had bigger ambitions. He had his sights on the Master Emerald, which he knew would make the clan unstoppable.

the fall of the echidnae

Despite the wishes of his daughter, Tikal, Pachacamac ventured to the top of Angel Mountain to claim the Master Emerald. The god, Chaos, was filled with rage at this and siphoned the energy from the Chaos Emeralds, rendering them nullified. The breathable atmospheres given by the Chaos Emeralds ceased, causing the underwater cities to be flooded, drowning every echidna that resided in them. Chaos then transformed to Perfect Chaos, wiping out Pachacamac, and in rage, caused a massive flood that covered the entire planet, raising the sea level permanently by a few miles. Tikal, in horror, uses the incantation her grandmother passed down and sealed herself and Chaos within the Master Emerald.

present day

Angel Mountain was now Angel Island. Many Mobians perished in this flood, and unfortunately, the human population was completely eradicated. Many of the Mobians that survived were Aquatic Mobians and Mobians that lived in high altitudes. The few echidnae that survived the flood eventually dwindled and fizzled out, with Knuckles seemingly being the last echidna remaining.
